Backup and Restore Data on Samsung Galaxy S6 |

The Samsung Smart Switch software tool for PC and Mac is equipped with backup and restores option that allows you to sync your Galaxy S6 to your computer. It is also used for updating your Samsung Galaxy S6 to the latest software update and for fixing firmware related issues.
Backup Using Android Data Manager – PC
If you have Samsung Smart Switch installed on your computer, simply run it, connect your Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge via USB data cable, then from Smart Switch click on the Backup button. It will just then creates the data and document files backup such as contacts, messages, call log, photos, videos, music, application and the account settings into your computer.
Connect USB cable to the phone, then to a computer.
Note: If necessary, touch the Status bar and drag it down, tap Connected as a media device and then tap Media device to select the check box.
On the computer, click the Open device to view files using Windows Explorer folder or else navigate to and open the phone’s disk drive and navigate to the desired folder.
Navigate to the desired files on your device.
When finished, safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
Backup Using Android Data Manager for Mac – Mac
If necessary, navigate to samsung.com-smart-switch, click Download Smart Switch for Mac follow the prompts to download the Smart switch software.
Connect USB cable to the phone, then to a computer.
Note: If necessary, touch the Status bar and drag it down, tap Connected as a media device and then tap Media device to select the check box.
On your computer, open Smart Switch.
Inside Smart Switch, click the Back up button.
When finished, safely disconnect the phone from the computer.
To restore backup using Smart Switch
To restore the created backup data simply click on the Smart Switch “Restore” button. From there you can manually choose which particular data and documents you are going tor restore contacts, messages, call log, videos, music, photos, application and the account info and settings.
Backup Files via Google Account
Google owns the Android operating system so it has its own backup data tools that can be synced with your Google account. If you’re signed in to your Google account on your Android smartphone, your contacts are usually synced with your Gmail account. In the event that it isn’t synced, head over to Settings > Accounts > Google > Your Google Account and make sure the contacts field is checked.

Backup apps
To back up your apps, follow these steps:
From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
Tap Settings.
Tap the General tab.
Tap Back up and reset.
You must be logged in to a Google account to back up your apps. If necessary, tap Backup account, tap Add account, and then follow the prompts to log in to or create a Google account.
If necessary, tap Backup my data to select the check box.
If necessary, tap Backup account to select the account.
To carry out a manual sync of your apps, tap the Back key and then tap Google.
Tap your email address at the top of the screen.
Check to make sure all desired back up categories contain a check mark inside the check box. If necessary, tap the category (swipe up to see all categories) to select the check box.
Tap Sync now.
Backup contacts
To back up your contacts, follow these steps:
Back up to your Samsung or Google account
From the Home screen, tap Contacts.
If necessary, tap the Contacts tab.
Tap the Menu key.
Tap Merge accounts.
Tap the desired option:
Merge with Google
Merge with Samsung
Tap OK.
If necessary, log in to your Google or Samsung account.
Follow any additional prompts.
Backup to your SD card
If necessary, insert your SD card.
From any Home screen, tap Contacts.
If necessary, tap the Contacts tab.
If necessary, tap the Menu key, tap Contacts to display, and then tap All contacts.
Tap the Menu key and then tap Import / Export.
Tap Export to SD card.
The pop-up window will display the file name for the contact list. If desired, record the name of the file before tapping OK.
Tap OK.
Backup media & pictures
To back up your media and pictures, follow these steps:
Using your phone
Note: You must have a SD card installed.
From any Home screen, tap Apps.
Tap the Samsung bundle
Tap My Files.
Tap All.
Tap Device storage.
Choose one of the following options:
To copy all of your files, tap the Menu key and then tap Select item then select the items you want to copy.
Locate the media and picture files you want to back up. To the left of the desired file or folder, tap the check box to select the check box. Repeat as desired.
Note: Pictures and movies captured using the Camera application are stored in the DCIM folder and media may be stored in the Download folder or other folders.
Tap the Menu key.
Tap Copy.
Note: To move the file without duplicating it, tap Move.
Tap SD memory card to enter your external SD card.
If necessary, navigate to the desired folder.
Tap Paste here.
Note: If moving the file, tap Move here.

Restore apps
To restore backed up apps, follow these steps:
If necessary, log into your Google account.
From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
Tap Settings.
Tap the General tab.
Tap Accounts.
Tap Google.
Tap your email address.
For each desired back up category, make sure the check box is selected. If necessary, tap the category to select the check box.
Tap Sync now.
Restore contacts
To restore backed up contacts, follow these steps:
Google or Samsung contacts
If necessary, log into your Google or Samsung account.
From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
Tap Settings.
Tap the General tab.
Tap Accounts.
Tap Google or Samsung.
Note: If you backed up your contacts to your Google account, then tap Google for step 4. If you backed up your contacts to your Samsung account, then tap Samsung for step 4.
Tap your email address at the top of the screen.
Tap Sync contacts to select the check box. If the check box is already selected, then tap Sync now.
SD card contacts
If necessary, insert your SD card.
From any Home screen, tap Contacts.
If necessary, tap the Contacts tab.
Tap the Menu key and then tap Import / Export.
Tap Import from SD card.
Tap the account where you want to save the contacts (or example, Google).
If you only have one contact list (vCard file) stored on your SD card, then the contacts will automatically copy now.
Tap Import vCard file. Tap OK.
Tap the desired vCard file where the contacts are stored. Tap OK.
Restore media & pictures
To restore backed up media and pictures, follow these steps:
Using device
From any Home screen, tap Apps.
Tap the Samsung bundle.
Tap My Files.
Tap All.
Tap Device storage.
Locate the folder containing the desired media or pictures.
Tap the Menu key, tap Select item, and to the left of each desired file or folder, tap the check box to select the check box. Repeat as desired.
Tap the Menu key and then tap Copy.
Tap SD memory card to enter your device’s internal memory. Navigate to where you want to restore the files.
Tap Move here.

Backup and Restore files using Backup Apps from Play Store
There are also some back up apps you can find at Play Store. But please be reminded that some of these apps requires your Samsung Galaxy S6 to be rooted first before you can actually use it. You can use these apps nice and easy since you only need to download it from play store then simply runs its functions. But if you aren’t rooted your phone yet, and you just wants to make a back-up all of your important files then you must use the default back-up and restore procedures provided by Samsung and or by your carrier operators.
